Institute Park

Institute Park

Institute Park is probably one of Worcester’s most amazing parks in every way imaginable. Donated and designed by Stephen Salisbury III (in association with Edward Lincoln Winslow), the 17 acres were originally used as a pasture and farm fields – a past that can still be felt in the lush, rolling vistas. There used to be a bridge connecting the park with a small island in the pond. The park also used to feature the ‘Norse Tower’ pictured above. Salisbury Pond or Institute Pond is an artificial lake made by the dam on Grove Street. There are plans for Salisbury Pond to be treated and cleaned up with an aeration fountain installed, replacement of and upgrade of the concert pavilion, as well as a small bridge reconnecting the island and creating a circuit walking path around the park.

This park does not currently have a member organization established with Park Spirit. If you are interested in forming such a local group, please let us know!
