Fostering Worcester's Parks
Park Spirit of Worcester, Inc. is a Friends of the Parks organization, promoting citizen and community involvement in the preservation and growth of our city’s parks and play areas. We partner with local neighborhood associations to provide non-profit assistance , association advocacy, networking and publicity for neighborhood events and limited grants for parks and open space rehabilitations. Some other examples of the extent of our involvement over the past decades:
- Assist in lighting the Annual Holiday Tree on the Worcester Common
- Sponsored “Pool for Pools” and “Save our Summer”, partnering with corporate sponsors and individuals, raising hundreds of thousands of dollars to maintain this much needed service for our youth in the summer in the parks and pools.
- Developed the “Greening of Worcester program promoting the use of the Green Hill Park Greenhouse and community gardens.
- Help sponsor the yearly summer concert series at Elm Park.
- Provide meals for thousands of inner-city children in Worcester’s parks and playgrounds and collaborate with the Worcester Public Schools and neighborhood agencies for MCAS tutoring.
- Rejuvenate the NCAA sanctioned Crompton Park Summer Basketball League.
- Park Spirit has been the organizing committee for yearly Earth Day cleanups within the City.
- Sponsor Golf Tournaments benefiting a host of causes including:
- Joe Petty Memorial Playground
- Worcester Public Schools Sports and Summer Programs
- Pools
- Preserve our world renowned works of art in our Parks: 17 major works, several smaller ones and many commemorative markers in the parks
